These Van Tellingen BENDEL snuggle-hug salt and pepper shakers are absolutely adorable and are hard to find. This small green and dark gray set is in great Condition but does have a small unglazed area on the 2 hole shaker by his eye.  They both still have their corks. On the tail of each love bug shaker it's marked "Bendel Love Bug" and on the bottom it's marked "Pat No 2560755". These Bendel salt and pepper shakers were designed by Ruth Van Tellingen Bendel who was also a well known illustrator of children book in the 1940's.  Ruth Bendel designed a whole series of different hugging animals and people for the Regal China company of Antioch, Illinois. The interlocking sets fit together in a hugging position and could be picked up together without a chance of dropping them. The holes are on the same side so that both salt and pepper could be dispensed at the same time using only one hand. The bottoms are so well balanced that it is almost impossible to knock them over. These Love Bugs will make a wonderful addition to your Van Tellingen/Bendel or Salt and Pepper Collection.
