Cast Iron Tea Kettles
Scranton Stove Works #9 Cast Iron Tea Kettle "Pit Bottom with Gate Mark"
Now this is a very beautiful antique Cast Iron #9 Tea Kettle by "The Scranton Stove Works" of Scranton, PA.", which was founded around 1865. This tea kettle has a "Classic Design, Gate Mark and Pit Bottom" for the period. Most cast iron with gate marks was made prior to 1900, when that method of pouring was discontinued by most manufacturers. This does have some uniform pitting overall inside and out, as nearly all tea kettles of this age do and the cast iron washer on the lid hinge has a chip, but no holes or cracks. This #9 tea kettle is not nearly as common as a #8 would be and the age of this piece alone, 140 or so Years Old, makes it "Rare". I estimate the age of this piece to be Circa: Late 1860s - 1870s and is a "Tremendous Decorator Piece".
